Good bye to our first home

Image
Next week this time, we would have moved to our new nest. The decision to move was a strategic one, and for the long term good of the family. However, as I pack our belongings into boxes, seeing how we are slowly emptying the house, I cannot help but feel a wee bit sad. Whatever it is, this is where we had our many firsts. Thank you for what you have provided us in the past 7 years. You will be remembered and missed. Our messy, yet cozy first home.

Penang - Kebaya Restaurant at Seven Terraces

Image
Last weekend, I joined my lovely colleagues in Penang for a company offsite.  I almost gave this trip a miss as J was down with fever and flu few days prior. Somehow, I decided on a compromise of going only for a night instead of 2... which was a fortunate thing, else I may have missed out on what I thought was my best meal in 2013 thus far.  The Kebaya Restaurant   is part of the Seven Terraces , a boutique hotel set in a row of refurbished Peranakan terrace houses, in the heart of Penang's World Heritage site.  Walking through doors was akin to stepping back into the time of the "Little Nonya", and having spent 4 years of my life in a Peranakan school, being in this space was like going back in time.  The restaurant serves up 4-course Peranakan set meals of your choice, quite like all western fare with an appetiser, followed by your mains of one protein and one greens, ending with a dessert. You will notice their food comes with hints of influence from

Interesting Birthday Party Venues

Jonas will be turning one in a month's  2 weeks' time. Preparations for it started 2 months before, partly because we are also in the midst of prepping for our big move. I need to ensure I have enough time to properly plan the party amidst the busy period at work and the endless packing at home. Before we decided to have the party at our new place (thank God we can make it in time), we researched and got quotations from many other external venues. So, I thought why not share some of the unique places we explored which will make any party a fun and interesting one. Something to think about when you plan your next party: KBox   I love to sing. So when I saw that they had kids' party packages, I thought why not! Well, of course, there were some people who thought that it is not an appropriate place for a kid's party. But, seriously...KBox ain't sleazy if that is what they're thinking. The events folks at KBox were very responsive. My queries were a

Learning to let go

There were many instances in my 32 years that have got me wondering why life couldn't be smoother or fairer. Growing up was tough. We were not well off hence everything I wanted had to come with a price. When faced with adverse situations, I often am able to find my way out of it, of course not without some hard work. I guess that shaped me to be who I am today. A perfectionist in my own right. All that I put my heart to do, had to be executed to planned....best if it is flawlessly too. I sound like a nazi, and the truth is I am.. and still is (to a certain extent). Then came my quest to be a parent , and the hiccups encountered along the way made me realize that sometimes, it is best to leave things in the hands of God and let him lead the way. There is no perfection without faith. We got married in 2006. I was 26, he was 27. We spent a good deal of money on the wedding & the house so having kids was the last thing on our minds. Moreover, I often told myself that I sti

An outlet away from daily routine

Some close knit friends and colleagues know me as the person who can make jewellery. Not a widely known fact by many, but at the moment I like it the way it is. How it started In 2009, I told my husband that I wanted to start my own online shop. Selling what, I didn't know. So, we took a trip to Bangkok, hit the wholesale market and came back with stuff. Literally S-T-U-F-F... everything and anything that we thought we could sell. As a marketer, on hindsight, what I did back then was a joke. No strategy, no goals... don't even know what we were selling. It was the point in my life where I needed something to keep me busy when I am not at work. The man had his x-box which he didn't seem tired of till this day. I had my dramas, but that wasn't enough. And of course, this was the time when we were actively trying to conceive to no avail. The website started.. and it is a full fledged e-commerce one no less. Thanks to the man for patiently and meticulously setting i

Kidz Amaze - SAFRA Toa Payoh

Since J learnt to crawl, I have been meaning to bring him to an infant/toddler play gym. Oh well... I procrastinated till last Saturday. We went to Kidz Amaze @ SAFRA Toa Payoh really to check out their party rooms. YES! J is turning 1 in less than 2 months. After much deliberation, we decided to have a party for him since his 1st month party was a very low-key affair. Unfortunately, the rooms are fully booked for the weekend before his birthday, so it was back to the drawing board for us. Since we were already there, we thought might as well let him have his first adventure at an indoor playground. Kidz Amaze is SAFRA's unique indoor playground, that first landed at their Jurong clubhouse some years back. 2007 if my memory did not fail me. Highly popular with older kids (or so I assume looking at the crowd there) and I can see why. The latest outlet at SAFRAToa Payoh spreads around 12,700 square feet and features a unique scavenger hunt attraction where kids and their par
