If I were a time traveller...

If you can travel back in time, what would you do and where do you want to end up at?

Many things in life happen for a reason. I always tell people around me to not live with regrets, so I try not to either.

There are times, however, when I do think about the "what-ifs" and whether or not things can be done better. It is more like a learning experience.

If I could travel back in time, there are 2 things I would do:

1) Spend more time with my parents, pre-kids

My brother and I were raised as independent kids. Along the way, that independence meant we figured out the ways of the world on our own. We learnt life lessons based on our experience while growing up. We were less under the wings of our parents. We spent very little time with mum and dad. This continued on till we got married.

Now, as they are older, they get lonely and I can tell they do wish for us to spend more time with them.

It gets really hard sometimes when we got to manage our own family, a career, and also ensure their needs are well taken care of. It is also at this stage, after being a parent myself that I realise how much they must have sacrificed for us, and my heart sinks every time I feel I am not giving them enough of my attention. I wish I could have done more for them before J came along, to build that bond we never really had while they were busy making a living so Bro & I had a better lives.

Of course it is not too late now. Just need to consciously make the effort to do so.

2) Travel, travel, travel

If I knew I was only going to have kids 6 years after getting hitched, I would have spent that time traveling widely.

There's so many places I want to visit but it is either too far away or not suitable for kids. Even now, while we are in taiwan, every single activity is about the kid.

We cannot stop in our tracks and enjoy a leisurely coffee at one of the many pretty cafes in the country side, because the kid wants to run and feed the animals, or jump in muddy puddles.... well you get the drift.

That said, I am looking forward to the day when J can be left in Singapore with his grandparents without looking for us. Then, we can continue with our couple travels!

So, now's your turn to think about what you would do if you were a time traveller....
