Braised Pork Belly

I get a lot of satisfaction seeing my loved ones enjoy the food I whip up for them.

Now that it is not necessary to separately prepare food for J, I told myself to at least cook for the man and the boy once a week.

My first home cooked meal for 2015.
In the past, I avoided cooking during the weekends because the preparation and cleaning up is just far too much work! However, with J being sightly older, we feel it is time he is introduced what it is like to have a home-cooked meal at home together. Moreover, it is definitely healthier than have packed food every day.

Week 1 of 2015 saw me cooking the man's favorite braised pork belly. Well, he loves anything that's pork belly related, so it is definitely worth start the year making his tummy happy!

Here's the receipe to share:

Braised Pork Belly (adapted from The Wok of Life)

Note: I used the slow cooker for this recipe.

500 grams of lean pork belly
2 tablespoons oil
1 tablespoons shaoxing wine
1/2 tablespoon dark soy sauce
1 tablespoon light soy sauce
2 cups water

1) Slice pork belly into strips or any size you desire

2) Bring a pot of water to boil, and blanch pork for a minute or two. This will help to remove any impurities from the meat.

3) Heat some oil in a wok and stir fry pork till slightly brown.

4) Prepare all ingredients (oil, shoaling win, dark & light soy sauce and water) in a slow cooker pork and bring it to boil over the stove.

5) Shift pot into the slow cooker, and add the pork.

6) Braised pork will nice and tender in about 2 hours time.

When the meat is first added into the slow cooker.

The man gave 2 thumbs up for this, and polished it off for the whole family! And, what's great about this recipe is , it is quite easy to do. It takes only about 20 to 30 minutes to prepare. So you can prepare it while the kid is having a nap, and leave it in the slow cooker till it is dinner time!

Something to try this weekend perhaps?
