Day in a A Life: Weekend Fun

Image
I have been doing this working mama gig for about 3 years now, and really,   my weekdays are not the most interesting. Weekends on the other hand are different, especially so now that the man needs to work on shifts. This means on some weekends, it's solo parenting for me, and also an opportunity to spend 1-to-1 time with my cheeky monkey. Here's how one of my solo parenting Sunday looked like:

A round-up of 2014

Image
So, it's the time of the year to look back and think about where we have done well or fouled up. Honestly, 2014 is definitely better than expected after coming out of a rather dreary 2013. What better way to recount the year by going through my "15 before 15" list. A report card of sorts.

Christmas Countdown at Plaza Singapura

Plaza Singapura holds a very special place in my heart, or in fact for many 80s kid like me. I spent every weekend at Yamaha Music School… and sat by the window of Do-Re-Mi cafeteria having my soya sauce chicken noodles. After graduation, my first job was at a retail service centre at Plaza Singapura. So I spent almost every waking hour at the mall, had my meals there and even did most of my shopping at the mall.

We have always been advocates of outdoor play. As much as possible, during weekends, we will take the boy out to work up a sweat! Just the thought of going out, whether it is to get past those mini obstacle course at the playground , or simply taking a walk in the park makes J very happy. When he gets his dose of sunshine,  his mood almost always gets lifted. He whines less, eats and sleeps better, which makes us happy parents too!

Cold Storage Kids Run 2014

Image
We had our first ever kids' run at the Cold Storage Kids' Run this morning, and that means I can tick point 9 off my list of " 15 before 15 " . When we signed up for the run, I was rather apprehensive as I wasn't sure how J would perform. Yes, he likes to run but this is really different with the massive crowd.  In a rather ok mood as we make our way to the event ground.  We noticed that J tends to shrink into a shell when he is put in a situation with too many people. Basically, he does not like crowds, just like his parents. So, this run was a real challenge for not only him but us too.  The day started nice and sunny. I always love how they play such adrenaline pumping music at runs. It gets everyone happy and geared to go. Not my little one though.  Notice the pursed lips? That's J's signature.."I don't quite like what's going on here" type of look.  J insisted to take a picture with the Scotts' mascot, b

Yakult Health Foods - Drink your vegetables

Image
Some 3 weeks back, I was invited to the media launch of Yakult Health Foods (YHF) in Singapore.  A part of the Yakult group, more commonly known for it's well received probiotics drink that we are all so familiar with, YHF was established to implement the Yakult group's corporate mission of contributing to the health and happiness of every person around the world. And, they wanted to do this via health foods.  Being a huge fan of the Yakult drink, I was keen to find out what's in store for us.  When one mentions health foods, vitamins and other supplements come to mind. In addition, YHF manufactures and sells the Japanese health drink aojiru or green juice.  In this case, it's the Maroyaka Kale. Kale is fast gaining popularity due to it's high nutritious content as well as it's anti-cancer properties.   YHF's Maroyaka Kale is grown in special soil by contract farmers in the Kunisaki Peninsula in the Oita Prefecture.
