[Bangkok Travel] Hua Chang Heritage Hotel

Image
When we planned this trip, it was really just to chill, make the man's work clothes and take it nice and slow. Essentially, it was a getaway from busy work commitments to spend quality time as a family ( plus, I was supposed to be pregnant... ).  With these in mind,  we took some time to decide where to stay in Bangkok. We really wanted to try Kempinski after raves from fellow parent bloggers... but it is way above our budget. My prudent husband will never hear of spending so much on accommodation.  Lobby at Hua Chang Heritage

Bangkok 2012 (Part 2)

Here's the second instalment on our family trip to Bangkok. You can find part 1 here . Yes! I know... I don't do very well in writing entries on my travels. I am still trying though.  Bangkok is seldom a choice destination amongst people with babies. Other than not being the cleanest of placest, it is often too crowded to be pushing a baby around. The pavements are bumpy, and there are limited escalators up and down the BTS stations. That makes Bangkok not very stroller friendly. There are also not many activities for the little one... as it is more of a shopping, massage & eating paradise. To be honest, I was worried about the above as well. But, since J is probably still oblivious to which country we are holidaying in, and what really mattered was for us to spend some time together (plus get the Hubz clothes tailored)... we went with it anyway. The treatment What greeted us at the arrival hall of the Bangkok airport came as a pleasant surprise. With J and hi

Bangkok 2012 (Part 1) - Our first family trip

Before 2012 ended, we took a short trip to Bangkok with Burger Boy. What better way to end a really fulfilling year than spending quality time as a family (actually .. quality time shopping for me! ;p ). This was Burger Boy's first time on a plane, and 30 minutes upon boarding the plane, I was seriously on the verge of calling off the trip! Well... I had an energizer bunny on board...and Burger Boy's non-stop bouncing and babbling wasn't what we were expecting. We thought it was going to be more like.. board plane, drink milk at take off, and sleep for 2 hours.... who was I trying to kid?! Anyway...the trip ended very well, and our struggles with Burger on the flight there were soon forgotten. Here's how it went: 1. The journey In my usual cool fashion, I wasn't overly worried that Burger Boy would have any issues with ear pressure, and he would do just fine. Maybe in this case.. TOO fine...So much so that he went on and on and on and on for 2 hours... tak

urban retreat - BKK Getaway 2011

A trip to the land of smiles will never be complete without a visit to the spa. I used to frequent Baan Dalah MindBody Spa @ the Sukhumvit Soi 8 for their foot massage. This spa is lovely, convenient for where i stayed and reasonably priced.  But for this trip, i wanted to try some place more lush. Googled before the trip and found a couple... and settled for Urban Retreat as it's the cheapest of the lot. There are 3 outlets in central Bangkok, all of which are along the BTS Sukhumvit line. I chose the newest outlet, right at the doorstep of Asoke BTS station, made a reservation via their online form, and was quite impressed at how quickly they responded to confirm my booking. All these in a matter of 2 hours. :) True to their name, upon walking through the doors behind their counter, it felt like you have just entered  a retreat away from urban bangkok. You will be brought through what seems like a maze with multiple doors .... kinda like a sense of mystery as well! SImple an

sawasdee hotel @ sukhumvit soi 8 - BKK getaway 2011

This was a very impromptu trip as Hubz wanted to get out of the stifling environment here, at the same time to celebrate my birthday. Yet, we did not want to spend too much. Hence, we decided take a risk to stay @ a budget hotel. Sawasdee Hotel @ Sukhumvit Soi 8 is part of the Sawasdee Hotels group which has quite a number of hotels across bangkok and pattaya. They are also the sister to the Woraburi hotel group... another popular group in Thailand. I admit i was a little apprehensive with this choice of hotel especially when the pictures on the web of some of their older properties were seriously not appealing at all. Simply not up to standard. And.. all i can picture is sleaze. The only reason i agreed to this is coz the hotel @ Sukhumvit Soi 8 just opened in oct last year... and so far, had good reviews on tripadvisor. Moreover, soi  is quite convenient for us since staying @ Citadines Soi 8 during our last trip. Guess my apprehension was unfounded as this quaint little hotel is

quick bangkok update

Yup! I was in bangkok….. and am back! It was a good trip. Given that i was pretty worried about all the news on protests and demostrations that were meant to happen over the weekend… it was rather peaceful, and I had quite a good time. Shopped till my legs almost broke… but it was still zee best! Time away from office is always good. What made my trip even better was that the hotel which I picked was fantastic and they even had us upgraded to a suite… PeRfecT! Well…. read on the web of this new hotel, Vie Hotel by mgallery…which really part of the Mercure group. It’s located along Phaya Thai road, next to the Ratchethewi BTS station (opp. Asia Hotel). It has only 150 rooms… which makes it less crowded than many of the 5 star hotels. Which also means service was tip top. View Full Album

Bangkok - 24 to 27 May 07

Been back from bangkok for over two weeks now. But have yet to upload any piccies or updated on my holiday. Well... it was one of the worst holidays I had. No... not because I went there with my mum & MIL.... but because, things seemed to go wrong from the very minute we landed in BKK. Checked in to Ambassador Hotel (recommended by my colleague... coz of its proxmity to the BTS).... it was already 3 pm..... but they told us the rooms are not ready. Nvm.... we went out for a walk.... came back at 4 pm to only realise that rooms are STILL not ready. They decided to give us two other rooms...... When we told we can finally jump onto the bed and rest our tired feet..... we found that the rooms were dirty...... the shower was broken.. and the arm chairs had blood stains on them!!!! EEEWWW! So.... me.... the bitchy one.... and a cleanliness freak..... stomped down to the reception to demand that we have the room changed! This is a far cry from my favourite Twin Tower hotel. If not for th
